The good news:
The StormOS repository now has over 2,500 packages in it! 2,583 to be exact. Notable new packages include the latest version of Xorg, Qt4, GTK+, Glib (which appears to be working with our FAM port), APT, Dpkg, Python 3 and HAL, plus many more which I've since forgotten about.
The code in this repo is highly experimental so if you want to use it with NCP3 be warned. Many packages will need a recompile.
The bad news:
Although some insane progress has been made I don't think the repo is quite ready enough to produce a working ISO from it.
The excellent news:
Since the ISO will be delayed I've decided I will produce a VirtualBox image instead. Expect a bleeding edge GNU/OpenSolaris image with a fully functional GNOME environment.
How about the installation? Has it been improved?
